Sunanya Deka

Program Associate

Sunanya is a Program Associate at Women First, supporting a portfolio of grantee partners across India and East Africa. She leads the implementation of Women First’s grantmaking model by providing one-on-one partner support, facilitating peer learning, and strengthening organizational resilience. She approaches this work with kindness, curiosity, and a deep belief in collective growth.

She brings several years of experience in the development sector in India, where she supported grassroots organizations working at the intersections of gender, reproductive justice, education, and criminal justice system reform. Her work has spanned capacity building, policy advocacy, qualitative research, and strategic communications — with a strong focus on amplifying the leadership and voices of structurally excluded communities.

Throughout her career, Sunanya has gained valuable experience working closely with national and international donors, which has helped her understand their expectations and effectively communicate the impact of grassroots initiatives. This experience enables her to support her grantee partners in navigating funding and impact reporting.

Based in New Delhi, Sunanya spends her weekends binge-reading, picnicking with friends, and watching the latest horror movies.
