Partnerships
Building Partnerships is a top priority for Women First.
We’re doing it through strong relationships, transparency, and shared learning.
Complex social issues like gender equity cannot be solved by a single organization. Advancing gender equity requires a concerted effort by multiple parties working across fields and organizations, from nonprofits to foundations to government agencies, companies, and financial institutions.
OUR CURRENT PARTNERS
Prospera is a network formed by independently registered women's funds. Prospera strengthens, supports, and connects member women's funds, and leverage opportunities to transform the funding landscape for women, girls, and trans* people.
The United Nations is an invaluable forum for solving complex global challenges. It brings together countries and diverse stakeholders to take positive actions that improve the planet. Women First is formally associated with the UN’s Department of Global Communications and the Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC).
The Department of Global Communications tells the UN story across multiple platforms, digital and traditional, building support for the aims and work of the United Nations. Women First participates in efforts to highlight the importance of women-led grassroots groups and acts as a microphone for our grantee partners.
The United Nations Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC) is the social platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally-agreed goals. Women First was granted ECOSOC consultative status in 2004.
One of the primary ways Women First engages with the UN is through our participation in the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Each year, Women First sends a group of delegates to represent our organization and grantee partners at CSW’s two-week session at the United Nations in New York City.
If you are interested in becoming a Women First CSW delegate or a Women First CSW intern and representing our organization at the UN, please send an email to info@womenfirstfund.org.
Our approach and commitment is to:
Engage grantees actively as partners, not as recipients of aid
Bring together grantees to learn from peers and grow their networks
Facilitate bigger grants for our grantees as they mature and diversify their support
Build partnerships with other organizations to share our data, and to engage meaningfully in the philanthropic sector and strengthen the field
Work with governments and institutions to achieve mutual goals, contribute to national priorities, and advance community development and in-country initiatives
